The Oklahoma “Messages Project” was made available to the Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing, Oklahoma, through a collaboration between Smart Start North Central Oklahoma (SSNCO) and the Corrections Corporation of America. SSNCO works directly with the prison’s Mental Health Coordinator, Mr. Brian Inks, and offers a 10 week 2 hour per week class called F.a.t.h.e.r. (Fathers Acting To Heal Educate and Reconnect). This program helps inmate Dads stay connected to their kids while incarcerated, as well as teaches them components of Brain Development, Child Development, Self-Regulation and Healthy Communication Skills. The inmate Dads have the opportunity through this class to look back at their own childhoods and reflect on what worked and what didn’t so that they can offer their children a brighter future full of better choices
